Philippians 3:13-14
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Have you ever seen a football player get so badly turned around that he runs toward his opponents end zone thinking it's his and scores for the other team?
When on the field of play, the number one goal is to keep the end zone in sight. To always be aware of the direction you are going. To never take our sight off the goal, which is Christ Jesus.
In this life, no matter how well we deceive ourselves, no matter how well we deny the truth, we never leave the field of play and the goal never changes.
What lies behind us, our past failures in Christ as well as our past successes in Christ, is not important to what lies ahead of us.
We need to continue to minister to and labor for the Lord always, forgetting the past and pressing on "toward the goal [the mark] for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
